If a cartridge is going to become very popular, it could receive few greater blessings than adoption by the United States Armed Forces. Case in point: The 223 Rem, which was adopted alongside the M16 rifle in 1964. The cartridge would later evolve into the 5.56x45 which shares identical physical dimensions as well as the same .224 diameter bullet.
You can break down .223 bullets for reloading into four major categories. Very light bullets in the 40 grain range permit extra fast muzzle velocities, ideal for when a flat trajectory followed by a shallow wound channel are desired for varmint hunting. 55 grain bullets are essentially the standard weight and best for when you want performance like the U.S. Army’s M193. 62 grain bullets may include a seven grain steel penetrator tip, but even without them they perform ballistically like the U.S. Army’s M855. Finally come the heavyweights at 70, 77 and 90 grains. These bullets possess extra mass that gives them greater momentum downrange, key for long distance shooting where wind drift enters heavily into the equation.
Heavier bullets demand faster barrel twists to best benefit accuracy. A 1:12 twist will adequately stabilize 55 grain .223 bullets, but a twist as fast as 1:7 is ideal for bullets 70 grains and heavier.
The 223 Rem and its higher pressure variant the 5.56x45 are the kings of the American rifle range. FMJ and FMJBT bullets are optimal for affordable high volume shooting, and deliver the requisite accuracy for effective training and satisfying plinking. V-MAX and other polymer tip bullets deliver the expanding terminal performance that hunting and personal protection call for. And when you’re trying to hit the most distant targets, the superior ballistic coefficient of the HPBT will serve you particularly well.

In the past few decades they’ve made a big name for themself in America thanks to their Rock Island Armory 1911 pattern pistols, but their ammo has plenty of its own fans as well. Here’s your chance to load the same bullets as Armscor to make your own 223 Rem/5.56x45 ammo!
This case contains 4,000 55 grain FMJBT bullets. Each .224” diameter bullet is hardened by a gilding metal jacket for certain feeding in a semi-auto, and sports a cannelure to facilitate proper crimping. Armscor’s bullet components possess the uniform weight distribution that tight groupings can’t exist without. These bullets’ boat tails not only improve their ballistic coefficient, but also make them easier to seat in the case. Make your own M193 rounds, or get more inventive if you like. You’ll have plenty of room to experiment with 4,000 bullets for handloading!

Berry's .224" Diameter Bullets - 55 Grain FMJBT – 5000 Count
$399.85Cost Per Bullet 8¢ per bullet Product Type Bullets Bullet Weight 55 Grain Bullet Caliber 223 Rem, 5.56x45mm Quantity 5000 Bullet Type Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail (FMJ-BT) Manufacturer Berry's Manufacturer SKU 18435 This is not loaded ammunition. When you order these bullets, you only get bullets – no cases, no primers, no propellant. Please only order component bullets if you intend to load your own ammo!
We’ll gladly ship you factory-loaded 223 Rem or 5.56x45 ammunition until the cows come home. But if you demand to make your own range loads, then by cracky, we’ll gladly ship you factory fresh 0.224” diameter projectiles, too!
These full metal jacket boat tail projectiles are made by Berry’s of St. George, Utah. Berry’s abides by extremely strict tolerances, so you can count on each bullet to possess a consistent diameter and measure 0.740” long. Each nonmagnetic bullet’s boat tail helps to reduce in-flight drag, and also makes seating in the case a whole lot easier. These bullets also feature cannelures that keep them more securely seated in their cases.
You get 5,000 bullets when you order the 40 pound case: enough to make 4,999 rounds of 5.56 or 223 plus one unconventional fishing sinker.Customer Reviews

FMJ or FMJBT?
-
From my experience, these are FMJ's not FMJBT.
Boat-tails have a pronounced taper, these do not and that makes them harder to seat straight. I have to bell the case mouth more to get them to press in straight and that beats up my brass more.Review by Reloder15 (Posted on 2/5/2023)
